Kaitiakitanga means guardianship and protection of the natural world. As a fisher in this game, you are a kaitiaki — a guardian of the ocean and its resources.

🚫 Rāhui Zones

A Rāhui is a temporary restriction placed on fishing areas to allow ecosystems to recover. Never fish in a Rāhui zone. Respecting these bans is both a legal requirement and a cultural duty.

📏 Size Limits

All fish and shellfish must meet minimum size requirements before you can keep them. Catching undersized fish is illegal and harms breeding populations.

🎣 Daily Limits

Bag limits restrict how many fish you can take per day. These limits ensure community food security without depleting fish stocks for future generations.

⚖️ Balance is Key
